You do indeed remember correctly. The siting was made by a ROC (Royal Observer Corps) member while he was working on an oil platform in the North Sea off Scotland. He noted two F/B-111's, a KC-10 tanker and the strange triangular bodied aircraft in formation at low altitude. He did an extemporaneous drawing which was later made into a photo montage which has been often wrongly identified as the original photo. The credibility of the siter has never been questioned and his credentials make his identifications plausible. I will see if I can find a name and a date on this.
