Just to finish my story ...

"By now I have received a letter from AFFTC's FOIA office, that the 412th TW/DRJ [...] has "forwarded information" to SAF/AAZ at the Pentagon for further consideration (and possible release??)"

Well, nothing was released. Today I got a letter saying "The Security and Special Programs Oversight office reviewd your request and denied it in full", quoting the FOIA exemption for "information and material properly classified pursuant to Executive Order 12958."

Ok, more or less as expected. So although it's perfectly fine that the general public knows all sorts of facts about aircraft like TACIT BLUE, BoP, etc. (the size and shape, basic flight performance, when it was built, when it was flown and by whom, the general scope of the tests), public knowledge that said aircraft were also known as YF- would jeopardize national security!?! Go figure.
