If have seen small airfields about the size of small municipal field where a C-17 or C-130 could do a cargo run like this it's basically a touch N GO type of operation, just that cargo is let loose. This type of delivery method was heavily employed in vietnam. But I think this delivery method was rejected due to high loss of aircraft during nam. Knowing how cheap the Government is getting these days. It probably has multiple purposes could also be a gathering spot for helicopter assault operations. Like the Airforce's special ops guys.
