winter hikes

Two cold weather hikes come to mind.

Hawkeye Hill: Do this if you can talk someone who knows the way into guiding you.

Smokey Sam site: Head down Cedar Pass road until you reach the fence with the warning signs. Note, I didn't say the gate, I said the warning signs. Hike the fence line toward the right, obviously staying on the free side of the fence, and you will reach the smokey sam site. [We saw some idiot drive right up to the guard shack at Cedar Pass doing at least 50mph on approach, only to get turned around and zoom past us doing maybe 65mph. I'm guessing he had a map display built into his late model van and thought he discovered a short cut to Tonopah. And with the right paperwork, it is!] I think the smokey sam site is about a mile back.
