AF1, one of at least two modified 747's flew with all lights off and did the standard Steeeeep descent over Bagdad to land the President. It then took back off to orbit at a high altitude to prevent any chances of a lucky hit by a mortar on the ground or ManPAD while low. To go very high is one of AF1's main defenses. While at it's ceiling it would be close to impossible to hit it with a SAM short of a modified Saturn V. Apaches agressively patrolled the peremiter of the base while POTUS was on the ground.
