You may call them a myth if you wish. You're entitled to your own opinion of what produces those sorts of contrails. I saw them produced by very fast flying aircraft in the Restricted Airspace of the Edwards AFB test range from the mid 1980s through the early 1990s. My opinion is that these sorts of contrails are produced by an as yet to be disclosed fastmover model of US military or research aircraft.
