New Area 51 satellite images, which we hope to be able to publish soon, show that the new addition this spring is in fact a taxiway, not a runway. The older runway 14R/32L is completely x-ed out. The newer runway 14L/32R shows heavy use, and the new taxiway is a shortcut to the Janet terminal and the southern ramp area. However, there is a new runway: Part of the southern taxiway has been designated runway 12/30 in late April 2001. It is 5420 ft. long and 150 ft. wide. A possible use could be UAVs. The southern ramp area, in front of hangars 9-16, is currently being re-paved. Most likely a new project will move into these hangars. For more information see out new "Area 51 News and Timeline" page (attached link).
